  Full disclosure, I was a kickstarter backer and know the owners of this business, that said, woodpecker pie is awesome. It's literally a hole in the wall in the back of the mothlight (which itself is a fantastic music venue with thoughtfully curated lineups), and very much a niche concept. They only do one thing, single serving "hand pies" (though I hear plans are underway to add a select few items), and have a very small selection, usually just 2-3 savory pies and 2-3 dessert pies. The advantage of the very narrow focus, though, is that they have really perfected the product. The pies themselves are delicious and hearty, honestly one pie is a very satisfying small meal... and the process of ordering and receiving a hot, fresh pie only takes a couple of minutes making it one of the most efficient and cost effective options for a quick bite in West asheville. And perhaps most important with pie, the ownerst have truly perfected their crust, a flaky, nearly puff pastry style with just enough crunch and tenderness.
